FIX LTDNOW attends spring BOD meeting in support of Resolution R2018-36rev2, proffered by STL VC Rob Powell and LAX CH Jim Crossman, which sought Active APA Membership Restoration for All Inactive LTD/MDD pilots; providing them with full LMRDA Union Member Bill of Rights, including, attending meetings, voting, holding office and sitting on committees. Unfortunately, certain BOD (with ORD Reps being the most notable dissenters) obstructed and derailed that resolution; forcing it to be radically re-written and fundamentally revised with Revison 4.
That version, was deferred for voting until the June BOD. Regardless, even if voted up, it will still leave all LTD/MDD as APA Members who are NOT in good standing, with only the limited right to vote and nothing more. Therefore, FIX LTDNOW recommends that R2018-36rev4 be abandoned in its entirety, and the BOD be forced to vote om its prior version Revision3 to smoke out all BOD who are no voters.
Thereafter, APA President CA Carey should issue a Presidential C&B Interpretation making ALL LTD/MDD full APA members in good standing -Active Members, just as he directed at the April 17, 2018 BOD Meeting.

The stated purpose of DAPF is to protect and enforce the individual statutory rights of Long Term Disabled (LTD) airline pilots under the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA), Railway Labor Act (RLA), American's with Disabilities Act (ADA), Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA), Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRRA), Air-21 Whistleblower Act (AIR21), and Sarbanes-Oxley Whistleblower Act (SOX), as was intended by Congress to secure the public welfare.
Additionally, we have organized a grass roots effort on behalf American Airlines' 942 LTD pilots, call sign www.FIXLTDNOW.org , which seeks too increase awareness of pattern and practice of disability discrimination to which these disabled airlines pilots are subjected; and to ensure they are treated equally and fairly by their Union, the Allied Pilots Association (APA), and their Company, to improve their inadequate LTD pay and benefits; which haven't been increased since 1992, and are 1/3 of what Southwest Airlines LTD pilots recieve, and less than half of what low cost carrier Spirit provides.
Our spokesperson is disabled American Airlines Captain Jay Straub, who landed onto LTD while working a flight, when known to be defective Jet -Bridge stairs collapsed without warning, sending him headlong into the tarmac 12 feet below. As a result, he suffered a career-ending Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and hasn't has a benefit or pay increase for 19 years, and was not provided a reasonable accommodation of reassignment to a non-flying job in the pilots' collective bargaining unit. Worse, he only recently learned that without notice, American terminated and removed him from the seniority list; and his union, the APA, abandoned his representation, declaring him a non-member, solely on the basis of his medical condition in violation of the ADA.

APA Special Board of Directors Meeting Recap - The APA Board of Directors convened at union headquarters this week for a special meeting.
MONDAY: A group of LTD pilots gathered outside APA headquarters to focus attention on the need for improvements to our industry-lagging LTD benefits. The group then came into the board room for a portion of the morning session. APA President CA Dan Carey addressed them in his opening remarks, stating that “it’s always good to see fellow union members and Americans exercising their First Amendment rights.” He said that while APA has made a lot of progress in the last year and a half on its members’ behalf, he conceded that the union had “left some people behind.” He called on the board to make LTD and MDD pilots full APA members, and yielded the remainder of his time to CA Jay Straub, who sustained a severe head injury in 1999 at DFW when the jet bridge he was standing on collapsed. CA Straub recounted his ordeal and emphasized that “LTD could be you.”
